Mohammed Nasser al Khathlan from Riyadh wins the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2009.
13 is considered an unlucky number by many and this date of February 2009 certainly proved that for seven people who were dreaming about flying to Barcelona and competing with the best in the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2009.
Held at Virgin Megastore at the Mall of The Emirates and organized between FIFA, EA and Sony, the Middle East Qualifier event saw eight players from the following countries battle it out for supremacy- UAE (2 players), Saudi Arabia (2 players), Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. The two Saudi players (both names Mohammed) certainly seemed to be the dominant ones in the event beating everyone else for a spot against each other in the finals.
Mohammed Nasser al Khathlan from Riyadh proved to be too good for Mohammed M. from Jeddah beating him 5-1 and securing his dream to visit Barcelona this May and compete against 31 other players. The following is a full chart of the matches

“Playing at the Middle East Live Qualifier was a great opportunity for me to represent my country Saudi Arabia for the first time in the Middle East. This is a dream come true! I now look forward to travel to Barcelona and compete with the best virtual players globally!” commented Mohammed on his victory.
“We wanted to create an iconic gaming competition, and once the tournaments were announced, we were overwhelmed by the response,” commented Tim Stokes, Sales & Marketing Director, PlayStation Division, Sony Gulf FZE. “Virgin Megastores around the region were flooded with gaming and football enthusiasts, all wanting to play one another, and each hoping to represent their country in the ultimate final in Barcelona.”
We wish Mohammed all the best and hope he makes us proud in Barcelona.
