Ice Age 3- Dawn of the Dinosaurs Review

Looks and sounds like it was developed during the ice age!
This season is well known for its movies. Its summer and everyone is up for a little night out at the movies to watch the next best movie ever. Only problem is, that very same period is filled with lackluster movies and pointless sequels. This brings us to the 3rd installment in the Ice Age movies. With it of course, comes a videogame to excite or stun fans of the movie. The game comes with all our favorite characters and scenes from the movie, making it one of the best things to happen to young gamers since the internet. Not really… read on.

The developers did a good job presentation wise in this game. The menus are smooth and the game gets you going with the story from the get go. Nothing too complicated here, and judging from the market this game is trying to target, we are not surprised. You will get to play or interact with nearly every character in the movie. While getting around the game is pretty easy, watching the movie is compulsory to play the game. You will miss out on many story twists and the purpose of some characters if you go ahead and play the game without watching the featured animation.
The gameplay is split into many different types. Overall this is still a pure platformer but the different styles of gameplay are appreciated. You have to deal with everything from exploring, collecting and solving simple puzzles. You will even be facing off against slightly different variation of gameplay towards the end. You will for example face a mix of all gameplay elements in one level or shoot dinosaurs with snow balls. The level of difficulty is a bit too low and we are sure many young gamers will be beating this game with no problems what so ever.
Sound effects wise, for a movie licensed product, this game was very disappointing. Many of the voice acting jobs are way off and seem to be talking pointless and aimlessly throughout the game. The music fails to impress all together, easily making the whole sound department the worse thing about this game.
The graphics is just about average. You would expect these games based on animated movies to look a lot better then this. But Ice Age 3 the game just barely gets by graphics wise. The cut scenes look decent as long as you do not come up and close to any character on the screen. You will rarely face any lag or hiccups while playing, so this shouldn’t be a problem with this game.
Nothing new here, a movie licensed games using cute characters from the movie to attract the young fans. Ice Age 3 is certainly not a game any grown up gamers should be picking up. For the younger audience this is actually a pretty interesting video game. The sound and graphics might be a letdown, but the combination of familiar characters and the variety of gameplay will surely turn some young heads around.
